Thunder Bay International Hostel, Shuniah Ontario
The Thunder Bay International Hostel is a backpacker's paradise. Located in Shuniah (18km East of Thunder Bay), Northwestern Ontario it is surrounded by nature. The hostel is in close proximity to many areas of
interest. Swimming at the MacKenzie River is only 2km away. There are
many swimming areas along the river and including the MacKenzie Falls.
Cliffdiving at Silver Harbour is also very close--about a 3km walk,
drive or bike ride to the harbour or cliffs where you can jump into the
Lake Superior. The hostel offers free tours of the local garbage dump
during dump hours to see the black bears while they forage for food.
These lovable creatures are usually there on any given visit, and
generally tolerate bear-watchers who leave them be to their daily
routine and stand at a respectful distance. On summer nights, bonfires
are a real treat at the hostel. Under the starry sky in a clearing in a
red-pine forest, and with guitars brought out, guests talk, laugh and
sing into the night.
Beds are available at a great low price, and camping is also very inexpensive. A great selection of DVD movies can be borrowed, free WIFI is accessible, and office computers are also available for a small fee. In the Boreal Forest of Northwestern Ontario, at the West end of the Great Lakes, come see what Thunder Bay and the land of the Sleeping Giant has to offer!

Aboriginal art of the Northwest Coast of North America.
Bill Reid (1920-1998), Haida master goldsmith, carver, sculptor, writer, and spokesman was one of Canada's greatest artists, and one who has inspired a new generation of Northwest Coast artists. The area incredibly rich with nature. Nearby is

Backpackers Hostels Canada is very pleased to introduce one of our newest members--Dawson City River Hostel! Dawson City is
500km northwest of Whitehorse Yukon but will be well worth the trip.
The host Dieter has a great photo collection of beautiful scenes from
the Dawson City area, which can be viewed on their website.
When you come to Dawson City, prepare yourself for one of the most adventurous hostelling experiences on the planet! There is so much to say about the Dawson City River Hostel, and the sky features prominently in the discussion. Dawson City is in the zone of the 24-hour 'Midnight Sun' between mid-May and August. Also in late August, the hostel is an excellent place to view the night sky and as well, the Northern Lights. You really will have to check out the website to get a better sense of all the Dawson City River Hostel has to offer, or better yet, get yourself up there this summer!

Le Manoir des Sapins, in Sainte-Félicité, Gaspésie Québec!
Historically, each village in the Gaspésie had its Village Hotel that reflected the personality and charm of the community. They were the cornerstones of the communities that formed Matane and the Gaspésie. Often named after the families that owned them, The Village hotel was not only a lodging for the traveller, it was one of the important meetings places. Today, we call them ‘Auberge’ or ‘Gite’ but the concept remains the same. All along the 132 highway the blinking lights are a signal that there is a haven for the weary traveller.
The Manoir des Sapins has gone from generation to generation and still appeals to travelers. It has always been a meeting place; a place of artistic expression because that is what the Gaspésie is about. Careers and ideas have been launched Le Manoir, and for Isabelle Boulay it remains the location of her first shows, and she still speaks about it as one of her favourite place to jam. For 50 years the walls have held the memory of those who have passed by and those who have stayed, reflecting the spirit of Le Manoir des Sapins.
The Manoir des Sapins is ten minutes east of Matane. It hosts both dorm-style and private double rooms, a self-serve kitchen, free Wi-Fi, secure bicycle storage, and the famous Café-Crèmerie Les Gamineries.
